CABARET PROLOGUEROLE
COMPOSER & MUSICAL DIRECTORVENUE
WEST END & BROADWAYYEAR
2021 -ABOUT
Part performance art piece, part immersive theatre, the Prologue is a brand new 90 minute work for live music and dance, which precedes Rebecca Frecknall’s revival of Cabaret in transformed theatres in London and New York.
The Prologue takes place across 4 spaces simultaneously and combines a recorded score interwoven with 4 live musicians who roam the building, creating pop-up performances in and amongst audience members, alongside a team of dancers.
Casting a wide net across many influences, the score takes inspiration from the music of the 1920s, from Klezmer and Kurt Weill to Debussy, Ravel and Gershwin, blending early jazz with contemporary influences from ambient and electronic music, to build a musical bridge between the 1920s and the 2020s.
And all brought to life by exceptional musicians and dancers at the peak of their own artistic powers.
Cabaret was the winner of multiple Olivier Awards including Best Musical Revival.
